Offenburg, late 40s. Anna Burda is married to the printer and publisher Franz Burda, whose business is rapidly growing during the reconstruction after World War II. But the well-mannered life of a publisher's wife is not enough for Anna. She dreams of creating a style-making fashion magazine for the German society recovering from the war wounds.

Offenburg 1949. The economic conditions in post-war Germany are noticeably improving. Franz Burda's printing company and publishing house are doing well, and Franz can offer his wife Anna a well-off middle-class life. Her husband doesn't take Anna's own business idea, a fashion magazine that aims to provide women with chic models for tailoring, seriously. After all, she doesn't have to work like women in less wealthy circumstances because he has economic responsibility for her and the three sons Franz, Frieder and Hubert.

Contrary to Franz Burda's expectations, his wife has taken over the fashion publishing house along with all the debts and is also negotiating the printing costs for her magazine with him. It's not her thing to think small, the circulation will be significantly increased compared to the numbers of her predecessor: Aenne wants to bring a hundred thousand copies to the kiosks.
